I'm planning to create a Community

  • What is your Content Management module used for?

The Content Management module can be used to create and manage content. Unlike a blog or wiki, it mostly serves for creating static pages, such as information about a company or organisation, FAQs, rules, manifestos, event schedules or other service offers etc. These pages all have in common that they are created and/or changed only by a specific circle of members. We see the Content Management as a low-powered, simple CMS with even a simple users’ rights management.

The handling resembles that of a wiki, plus articles may be edited via a WYSIWYG editor, the version archive is missing and there are "navigation items" for structuring the contributions. Wiki pages, however, go through many dynamic changes and collaborative blogs are serving more than one person to put their contributions up for discussion.

For more details see our blog post on the Content Management module.

  • Can I connect my own internet address (domain) to a mixxt Community?

Yes. No problem. We can connect one or more of your domains to your community. You may choose whether the added domain(s) should serve as a forwarding to your community address or the community should be exclusively reachable via the new address.

Just send an email (see Feedback page) containing your current community address as well as the domain(s) you would like to connect to your community. We will then provide you with all further information.

  • Can I customise my Community settings after the creation process?

Of course! You will always be able to change most of these settings later on. Take your time and try some of the settings, features and designs.

Please note that there are three settings which can only be changed by our support team (just drop us a line)

    • setting a network from private to public and vice versa
    • changing the network from nicknames to real names (vice versa is not possible)
    • your networks URL (http://yourcommunity.mixxt.de)
  • How can I start a private Community with mixxt?

Being administrator of a Community, you can configure it as "private" and only accessible via the direct internet address. By clicking the admin tab you reach the privacy settings of your network, where you can configure the network's and its members' visibility. Among others, you can specify who may join the network. Creating a private Community, you decide between "everybody I approve of" and "only invited people". Thus you easily maintain an overview and control on the circle of your members.

For private networks you may consider which network pages should be visible for non-members. When dealing with confidential content, just let them see the main page or even a neutral sign-in page. In addition, you can exclude your network from being scanned and indexed by search engines. You specify these matters when setting up a Community. Considering the privacy of your members, you cannot turn a "private" network into "public" yourself. Please get in touch with us, we'll be pleased to help you with this conversion.

  • How can I start a public Community with mixxt?

Being administrator of a Community, you can configure it as "public". By clicking the admin tab you reach the privacy settings of your Community, where you can configure the network's and its members' visibility. In public networks you can let mixxt-users join by just clicking the "become a member" button. Thus you take away the inhibition from potential new users and promote a fast growth of your community.

For public Communities it is also impotant to let non-members not only see the main page, but allow them to check contents, activities and other members pages. In order to attain a higher network range, you should permit search engines to index your site, so that your Community appears in Google's, Yahoo's and other services' search results. You specify these matters when setting up a Community. You cannot turn a "public" network into "private" yourself. Please get in touch with us, we'll be happy to help you with this conversion.
