Can I embed external RSS feeds into a mixxt Community?

You're welcome! Select Menu builder in the admin panel and choose RSS feed as the new menu-tab item. Then enter the URL of the feed you would like to embed into your community.

RSS is an abbreviation for Really Simple Syndication and "used to publish frequently updated work such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video in a standardized format".

  • Can I embed external pages into a mixxt Community?

    Yes. Select Menu builder in the admin panel and choose IFrame as the new menu-tab item. Then enter the URL of the web page you would like to embed into your community.

    An IFrame (short for inline frame) "places another HTML document in a frame inside a normal (rather than frameset) HTML document." This broadens your communties horizon without the necessity of switching to an external site.

  • How can I shut down or delete my Community?

    Counter question: would you really like to entirely delete your community or do you just want to "freeze" in its present state?

    To completely delete it, select Delete network at the bottom of your network's admin panel.

    Freezing the community is a bit more complex, but might be the better solution. You need to adjust some of the Privacy settings in the admin panel and select the only administrators option. In addition, allow Only invited people to join the network. By setting these tough rules, you stop any new activity in your community.

    Please do also note, that it is possible to change your network's URL (Subdomain, TLD). If you just like to use a fancier name for your community or you organise a repeating event (e.g. conference2008 to conference2009), we will be glad to receive your request (see contact page) and apply these changes.

  • I need to change a profile question which is already answered. Does it work?

    No! Or, "Yes, but..." if you change a question, all answers given so far will be deleted! So please check your question's wording carefully before saving it.

    Our suggestion concerning a question which has already been answered by several members is to create a completely new question and to accept possible redundancies. Another option would be to notify the members per group message and ask them to answer the question again.

    This procedure serves to protect the user against a possible "arbitrariness" of the administrator and is also necessary because (illegal) statements in user profile questions are criminally liable.

  • I want another member to become the network host. Possible?

    Yes, possible. But changing the host can only be realised by our support team. Both, the old and the new host must drop us a line containing their email addresses they used for registration, their mixxt-ID as well as the respective community address.

  • Is it possible to individually arrange the main page?

    Of course! True to the motto "there is no second chance for the first impression" you should particularly emphasise on the design of your community's main page. Many aspects must be considered here: it is a private or public community? How much information of me and my members should be visible at this prominent spot? What features should be placed publicly on a central position?

    Select Main page from the admin panel to adjust its' look according to your wishes. Of course, you can change these settings later on.

  • Is it possible to send group messages or newsletters to all Community members?

    Definitely, one of our specialities! The Members option in the admin panel contains the feature Group messages. Use this communication channel for regular newsletters as well as important or exclusive information for a selected target group. Please keep in mind: do not exploit this channel as members may rate excessive use of these mailings as spam.
